Joints between building elements are designed to accommodate contraction and/or expansion movement of the element. Concrete slab joints are sealed to prevent ingress of foreign materials, water or chemicals, temperature variations, and allowing vehicular and or pedestrian passage. Joint performance is no longer functional once the seal is compromised.
